About Our Story

Asian and AuDHD was founded by Sandhya Menon in May 2025. Sandhya is an Autistic/ADHDer public speaker, psychologist and author who originates from Singapore and lives in Naarm, Australia.

Whilst having began work in the autism field in 2009, she stumbled across the neuroaffirming paradigm in 2020. It has been so very pleasing to watch the neuroaffirming movement gain traction in recent years here in Australia. However, there is still a significant lack of representation for individuals from Asian backgrounds within these conversations.

After having done a podcast on the Neurodivergent Woman about her immigration story and speaking at Yellow Ladybugs on intersectionality, she found more and more Asian people who came up to her and whispered "Me too."

She realised we were here, needed to be represented and we needed to do things differently. We may need to whisper first before roar. We still need to find safety in our cultural communities and meet others like us to wear the neurodivergent identity more comfortably in the face of collectivism.

Sandhya started a little community of Australian Asian Autistics and ADHDers, or those of Asian background parenting Autistics and/or ADHDers in 2024, and membership grew to 170 people in a year. We are small, but mighty, and mighty together. Together, we sometimes catch up for a yum cha or go for events and are finding our feet as our own unique community.

Asian and AuDHD is intended for anyone from the Asian continent to explore their experiences, from Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Singaporean, Indonesian and between.

Through blog posts and informational content, Sandhya aims to provide a platform for individuals with similar experiences to share their stories and insights. By highlighting the unique challenges and perspectives that arise from navigating both Asian and neurodivergent identities, the project hopes to foster a sense of community and support for those who want to explore their neurodivergence.
